Final Adjustments
A final few adjustments ensure your install provides the very best experience.
Grilles
Home Theater Reference architectural speakers (other than the ICLCR) include both local grilles and a full grille. Use either the local grilles or the full grille, not both.
Grilles can be painted. Remove the grille from the speaker before painting it. For full grilles, take off the scrim cloth before painting; reattach it afterward using repositionable spray adhesive.
Exercise caution when painting to avoid clogging the fine holes. Tricks that help include:
-
Spray paint (‘dust’) several thin layers instead of a few thick layers.
-
Use a ‘dry’ brush or roller to minimize the amount of paint applied in each layer.
Coherent Source Module Adjustment
All HTR speakers (except the IWSURR) feature a coherent source module. The CSM provides a powerful combination of a dome midrange and dome tweeter to the speaker.
You get the best sound when the tweeter is at the 12 o’clock position; if necessary, adjust the module to account for speaker installation. To adjust, loosen the four hex screws (shown in yellow). Use the finger indents on the CSM's surface (shown in green) to rotate the module 90°, then tighten the hex screws.
The CSM in the ICLCR cannot be adjusted.
Tonal Balance Controls
HTR architectural speakers are equipped with three adjustable tonal balance settings. These can be found behind a rectangular hatch on the front of your speaker. Press along one long side of the hatch to open it (generally, pressing on the side nearest the edge of the speaker opens the hatch).
Bass (0 / +2dB): This adjusts the bass performance for when the speaker back is removed. Select 0 when the speaker back is on and +2dB when the speaker back is off.
Midrange (+2dB / 0 / -2dB): Adjusts the vocal presence and speech intelligibility, depending on the room treatment and acoustics. This switch is not present on the IWSURR.
Tweeter (+2dB / 0 / -2dB): Adjusts the tweeter response, depending on room treatment and acoustics.
Spatial Sound Controls
These controls appear only on the IWSURR. They can be found behind a rectangular hatch on the front of your speaker opposite your Tonal Balance Controls.
ON / OFF:Turns the ambient drivers on or off. When ON, the speaker can operate as a bipole or dipole speaker (see below). When OFF, the ambient drivers are disabled and the speaker turns into a monopole / two-way direct radiating speaker, which can be used in-wall or in-ceiling as an Atmos height channel.
BIPOLE / DIPOLE Mode: Use BIPOLE when the seating area is at least 8' / 2.4m from the listening position. Use DIPOLE when the seating area is less than 8' / 2.4m from the listening position.
MAX / MID / MIN: When the spatial sound control switch is ON, you can control the presence of the ambient drivers. Choose max when sitting far away from the speaker, and adjust to MID or MIN if your seating position is closer.
